Nature Conservancy and You

Nature conservancy and you are more interconnected than you may realize.

The Appeal of Nature

For some, the idea of going out into nature brings up feelings of mosquito bites, sunburns, and too many crawly things. For others, nature is a place where one can feel calm and relaxed once more. No matter what you feel about nature, science is showing us that nature is important to the survival of our race. After all, we eat things in nature, we make things from nature, and we live in the midst of nature, even when it’s covered in concrete. The conservation of nature is no long something which can simply be discussed – it needs to be an issue which has a conservancy action plan for its survival.

The Cycle of Nature

Each living creature in the world feeds off another creature or system in the world. This cycle of life, when interrupted, can have catastrophic results. For example, when an oil spill happens in the Gulf of Mexico, not only is the water affected, but the birds in the area are impacted, as are the fish and other wildlife in the area. Those animals die off, which means those who ate those animals or benefited in some other way would also die off, leading to a domino effect of casualties. Sometimes people are able to step in and aid the cycle with pet meds.

This could be seen as another liberal, tree hugging agenda, but the truth remains: nature is dependent on us just as much as we are dependent on it. We can not live on electronics and industry alone. Our natural resources in the United States are what have allowed us to be as successful as we are today. If we do not take steps to protect these resources, we might just find that the United States is less powerful than it could be.

How Anyone Can Help

Being just one person makes it seem like the problem is too big for us to conquer. We think that we’re not able to make a significant difference and this has led us to simply continue with behaviors which are not helping the conservancy issue. But anyone can help – even when you’re not right on an oil spill and you’re not right next to a catastrophic event. You can make a different, even a small one. When thousands of people make small changes, they add up to a strong difference in the way that world works and looks.

Though you might be deft at ignoring all of the environmental group resources and flyers which come into your home, you might want to learn more about what’s really going on in the world. While you might not be able to see the effects of environmental troubles right now, it’s better to get ahead of possible problems than to try to fix them once they’re upon us.
